Michele Ivey’s “Cowabunga Corner” Blog #16

Blog 16 In this episode of “Cowabunga Corner” I give my review of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3 came out on March 19th, 1993. It did not make it as big as the other movies as the promotion wasn’t as active and the look has changed which discouraged a lot of people from going to see it. Henson’s Creature Shop was a big part of the first two movies and with them out of the picture, it would of taken more hype to get this movie where they would want it. Still it pulled in good size amount of fans to the theaters, as I worked the crowd at the different theaters in the Detroit area I got to see a lot of fans coming and going from the movie who really enjoyed what they saw. In this review I talk about my likes and dislikes on the characters and plot of the movie. I don’t go into the script, directing or costumes to much in this episode, those will be saved for another blog. I talk about how each character plays a roll in the movie, none is left to the side lines. I also talk of how I enjoyed having a new villain in the movie since we had the Foot in the first two movies. Please share your reviews either in comments or a video reply. No bashing the movie though, if you don’t like it be creative on telling us why you do not like the movie. I know there’s a mix reaction this movie on who enjoys it and who doesn’t. I hope people have more reasons than just the costumes though, looks are not the only things that break or make a movie. I look forward

@TurtleGirlIvey The Problem is and was that the Mirage Comics were never published here in Germany and Austria. We only got the Archie Comics which were based of the OT Toon, so I had no where to check …
But never the less the TMT Trilogy is awesome on it’s own and the 2007 Movie is also a nice “extra” (even the nod at the ending to the first 3 Movies ^^)
I’m really looking forward for the new Movie and you next Cowabunga Blog ;)

@hudemx the Mirage Comics were published in Germany, I do have three issues in German. I bought them from Ebay, they got a grey boarder around the cover. collectors quest . com/collectible/4441/teenage-mutant-hero-turtles-mirage-5 that is a link to one I have up on Collector Quest.
I agree the three movies stand alone great with the 4th being a nod. It’s sad the new movie is starting over.
Thanks for commenting on the blogs, they’ve been a lot of fun so far :)

    @TurtleGirlIvey They were published?
    Wow…
Well then off to Comic Book Conventions in Germany to find them all ^^
Thanks for the Link, even though they have the Hero Turtles Logo the grey does look cool!

@hudemx Heh yeah, I always liked them. Good luck on finding them. I will do a blog at some point about Turtle stuff I have from around the world, I got a few things from Germany, some of my favorites is these little toys, Mike and Leo are painted wrong as Leo is holding a pizza so they gave him an orange mask and the one with the chucks is painted with a blue mask. I enjoy collecting TMNT stuff from all over.

@linksavetheday Heh thanks for the comment, heh notice the jokes and the costumes were two things I picked on. If they had Henson and stayed closer to the script, I think this movie would of really worked out great.

Ever since I learned about Renet from the Mirage comics, I wish she had been in this movie.

I always enjoy hearing your opinions, Michele. I agree so hard about cartoons today, they are nowhere near what they used to be, in so many ways.
This makes me so angry that I HAVE to bring it up. People, this movie is not, and never was, called “Turtles in Time”, regardless of what the latest DVD release of it says across the front. “Turtles in Time” was the fourth video game, and has no connection to this film.

@TheShredder777 Yeah, a lot of cartoons have really bad character designs… it surprises me so many people like them… but than I give them a chance and I see there’s something under the art… shows can be good even if they don’t look great.
TMNT III did have another name, before it was released… but the name was never used. I remember being shocked when they didn’t use it. I’ll have to look it up, I have it somewhere at home. Learned it in August 1992.

I like thsi film. Regarding the costums mike and raph look better than leo and don. I like that they used their weapons and have better fights than the second film.
About the jokes, yes, they were silly, and i never liked the fact that the first we see of them is that they are dancing and practicing at the same time.
Good they don´t use the shredder, there are more villains out there that they can use.

@Jephael Yes, it could have been a good addition!

TMNT 3 definitely has its pros and cons, but then again, so does everything. Very informative on how the guys were written in the movie, and so true. Don isn’t a comic turtle, never was, so it was a bit awkward to give him some jokes. Note he didn’t say them too well. I still love him, though! XD I still say my favorite thing that came from this movie is the soundtrack. :D

I do have to agree with you on the fact that every time I heard Donny TRY to be funny in this movie (sometimes a hit, more often a miss lol) I would wince and go ugh, Donny, what are you DOING?! lol XD ~Crittle <3

well the scroll was an ancirnt scroll tht represented the coming of the turtles in later centuries they werent reallly different turtles also a kappa is a chinese demon lizard with some what of a shell

@TMNTAlex The quote from the movie is “Old Priests say that once before Demons defeated my Ancestors, now they’ve come back for me” So the scroll was saying there were different Turtles in the past. I’ve seen a few shows about Kappa and they even show Kappa in the 4Kids series as the Turtles fight them in the Lost season for one episode.

In the movies, I liked April in the first two. in this one, they just made her out to be so, dumb at times I really didn’t like it. If you have a walk man that starts playing you hit stop. You don’t throw it out like it just bit you. Seriously!

I would wonder about the same thing on the scroll. How did those pictures get on there and why? That is one part that will forever drive me crazy!

I got to say a big thing I like about this movie is that I live by where they did some of the filming! *G*

Great review my friend. I m sorry to say I didnt like this movie much but I do have on dvd..actually double set with TMNT 2. I bought it and only watch when I really need my turtle fix. Its great that you enjoyed it though… I did like certain aspects.. I would have much prefer it if Shredder also went back in time and started a older foot clan or they met the Shredder in that timeline would have been awesome…

@devilstoysuk2 Heh, that’s one area we wouldn’t agree on. I like that the Shredder wasn’t in this movie. He was not in every episode of the cartoons or every issue of the comics. So why does he have to be in every movie? As much as I like the Shredder, I like to see the Turtles in other type of adventures too. Shredder isn’t the only enemy they have.

At least Corey Fieldman was back as the voice of Donatello!

I agree that was THE worst aspect of the film, the humor was quite forced and unecessary..

I also thought the story was quite boring and forced in of itself as well (I was not really expecting Shredder, but something familiar like Baxter Stockmann, or maybe even KRANG?!?).

April annoyed me in this, she was just sarcastic in this film and grated on me.

I did however like the subplots about Raphael and Michaelangelo, and those should have been explored more (I felt for Mikey there).

I also would have liked the samurai who the Turtles switched places with explored much much more! We just got some scenes of them partying with Kayce.
