Ringmaster Fox Costume & Construction

This was a fun costume i put together for halloween 2009. I needed something sexy and creative to wear to the club that night. I didn’t intend to enter any contests, but my fiance and friends practically shoved me on stage and i won 0 bucks for best female! Gotta love them for being my confidence :) . I chose feather boas for the tail, because they make it very full yet light. And it looks awesome when your dancing around. Everyone just had to touch it. The hat was getting a bit heavy, so when i got around to making the ear, i used that pink insulation foam from the hardware store. It weighs next to nothing, and it gave me a chance to experiment with different mediums. It cuts easily with a normal knife, but i used a hot knife (purchased at a craft store)to avoid the crumbly mess. The modge podge was used to seal it so the paint has something to stick to. The jacket came from the goodwill. I was shocked to find exactly what i was looking for and for only ! I cut it up, sewed the edges (only to keep the liner and outer shell together) and glued some black felt along the edges to make it look nice. Then the gold roping was glued along that. The sculpey clay rings were hand sewed on using very thick thread. I posted this to show the use of different mediums to put a costume together. If your a beginner (or even advanced), altering existing clothes and adding stuff to them is a great shortcut. Raiding your local goodwill, salvation army or thrift store for parts saves a

@snowbunny2830 no i don’t take commissions yet, i just post vids to show how you can do it yourself. You might be able to start off with purchased lion tamer costume and add a bunch of stuff to it to make it special. :)

Thank you for sharing this – I found you on a make up tutorial and then I got a special surprise – you have a ring master costume video, something I have been so desperate to find. Im starting up in burlesque (will be dancibng with my snakes ;) and so wanted the ring master outfit – without spending a fortune. So thank you so much for all these tips!

What did you mean by sealing it before painting it? How does that help by painting it orange later?

@midnagirl100 the insulation board is kind of crumbly. if you just paint it, it could fleck off. If you seal it with some sort of glue before painting, it’ll keep from crumbling.

I used the idea of the tail to make a halloween cats tail by only using one boa.. It made a good frazzled look :D

I used the idea of the tail to make a halloween cats tail by only using one boa.. It made a good frazzled look….. Though I would love to have made the hat but am not understanding exactly what dimensions are needed to make it.. I guess I shall have to experiment a little with that.
